Together, Mike & Nessa raised 3 sons who were all under 10 years old when Mike’s Parkinson’s was diagnosed. Nessa has also been an Executive Director for 2 different Parkinson’s non-profits raising money and awareness. She has been running this support group for 10 years.

Atypical Parkinsonisms

Register to receive a link to the recording.** Atypical Parkinsonisms present with some of the signs and symptoms of Parkinson's disease, but generally do not respond well to drug treatment with levodopa. About our speaker: Yvette Bordelon received her MD and PhD degrees from the University of Pennsylvania. Her thesis work was performed with Dr. Marie-Francoise Chesselet and focused on understanding the brain circuitry involved in movement and mood and thinking. She went on to residency training at Massachusetts General and Brigham and Women’s Hospitals and then did a Movement Disorders Fellowship at Columbia University. Dr. Bordelon specializes in atypical variants of Parkinson’s disease, and in 2024 joined the Movement Disorders Program in the Department of Neurology at Cedars Sinai. -- This event is part of PCLA's "Let's Talk Parkinson's" series of live online events. The Latest Advancements in Deep Brain Stimulation for Parkinson’s
Join us for a conversation about the latest advancements in Deep Brain Stimulation technologies. About our speaker: Dr. Danielle Thordarson is a movement disorders neurologist originally from Camarillo, CA. She completed her undergraduate studies in Psychobiology at UCLA, where she developed a deep interest in the complexities of neurological diseases. Dr. Thordarson earned her MD from Rush Medical College in Chicago, followed by a neurology residency at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Following her residency, she pursued a fellowship in movement disorders at UCLA, where she developed specialized expertise in diagnosing and treating conditions such as Parkinson's disease, dystonia, and essential tremor. In fall of 2024, she will be joining the faculty at UCLA Movement Disorders where she will dedicate her time to clinical care, education, and clinical trials in Parkinson’s disease and ataxia. Patricia Chavez is a retired Computer Applications and Office Technology Instructor. She feels fortunate to live close to her family, especially her granddaughters, in the San Gabriel Valley since they are her motivation to stay well. She was diagnosed with PD in early 2023 and is grateful to all those who have given her support. Laura Holt-Erlig is a teacher of Middle School homeschoolers, grant writer, gardener, mother, wife, and daughter. She was diagnosed March of 2021 with Parkinson’s Disease, and has been on the journey to understanding and fighting it ever since through exercise, medication, and mindfulness. Heather Kennedy is the founder of Kathleen Kiddo, an advocacy site offering resources and connection through her writing and vlogs. An entertaining speaker known for her unique talks and film presentations about living with Parkinson’s, Heather writes from her home in the SF Bay Area.
